Ruth Ballard

Ruth Ballard is a native and long-time resident of Plateau (Africatown), AL. She is a lifelong member of Union Baptist Church, Plateau (Africatown), AL. Mrs. Ballard graduated high school from The Mobile County Training School as a Licensed Practical Nurse, LPN and is a member of the Mobile County Training School Alumni Association (MCTSAA). She matriculated from high school to Bishop State Community College where she attained an advanced degree in registered nursing, RN. She then earned a designation as a Certified Psychiatric Nurse, CPN and served a 40 year tenure at Searcy Hospital until retirement.
For more than 60+ years, Mrs. Ballard has been a trailblazer, a pioneer, and a community activist. She is active in her community and serves in several organizations, inclusive of Africatown Heritage Preservation Foundation (AHPF), Clean Healthy Educated Safe Sustainable (CHESS), Mobile Environmental Justice Action Coalition (MEJAC), and Chi Eta Phi Nursing Sorority. She is the proud mother of Anita, Tommy L. Jr, and T. Darold. She’s the grandmother of 8 and great-grandmother of 5.
